Slain Soldiers: Obun said. 'Do You Want The Boki People To Go To War With Okuama, Will They Survive It?'

Former lawmaker and APC chieftain Cletus Obun has responded to the assassination of Major Daniel Obi, a native of Boki in the state of Cross River, one of the 17 troops in the Okuama community. He emphasized the necessity of letting the military conduct its investigation and apprehend the criminals in order to prevent a communal conflict between Boki and Okuama. He suggested that his people would be at a disadvantage in a conflict by highlighting the advantages his group has over Okuama in terms of geography and ecology. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

He criticized the lack of accountability, questioning why individuals responsible for such actions are shielded from scrutiny. He referenced the case of King Ikolo, indicating that the monarch has not harassed the military and that he has only been called for questioning over the incident.

He said in an interview with TVC, ”The Nigeria military and the security architecture has been set up in a manner that they can dig into investigation. And when the investigation is going on, people politicize it. The Boki people where I come from only Major have been killed. Do you want the Boki people to go to war with Okuama, will they survive it?

They are living in salty water, we are living in freshwater. They are living in the Mangrove forest, we live in the fresh rainforest. They cannot face us if we come down there. We gave our children to the army to keep the country at peace and you kill them. And when they ask you questions, you say you shouldn’t be questioned at all. Has he [King Ikolo] been beaten? He has not even been charged in court. Why shouldn’t he be questioned about what his children did to other people’s children? Our paramount ruler in Boki land has just lost one of his sons.”

Clement Ikolo, the newly installed Ovie of Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government area of Delta State was among the eight persons declared wanted by the defense headquarters over the March 14 killings of 17 officers and soldiers on a peace mission at Okuama community, Delta State.
