Spielman emphasized that while the elimination of Sinwar was a critical achievement, the IDF’s mission in Gaza is far from over, with efforts continuing to rescue hostages held by Hamas and to dismantle the group’s operational capacity.
According to him, “As planned, about two days ago, he acted like a fugitive. He left these underground tunnels and went into an abandoned building with two other terrorists, hoping we wouldn’t find him. IDF troops didn’t know it was Sinwar, but we identified three terrorists with weapons in the building. A tank fired at the building, scattering them. Two of them went into a different structure and were eliminated.”
“One terrorist went into an abandoned structure, to the second floor. We sent a drone into that structure. As the drone approached, we saw a jihadi terrorist sitting in a chair. The drone closed in; he tried downing the drone by throwing objects at it.
