Shehu Sani Response Following To Wike’s Statement That From Monday, He Will Begin Removing Beggars From Abuja

According to THE CABLE, the FCT Minister said from Monday he will start removing beggars from the roads in Abuja.

He was quoted as saying that:

“It is embarrassing that people will come in; the first thing they see are just beggars on the road. Sometimes too, they may not be beggars; they may be criminals pretending to be beggars. We will not allow that.

“So I’m giving you a public order from now to Sunday; from Monday we will pack them out. Let us know that we have a city that we can call a city; it’s very embarrassing.”.

However, Senator Shehu Sani has now reacted to the report in a post that he shared on his official X handle on what, Senator Shehu Sani’s statement highlights the importance of addressing the root causes of social issues rather than just masking their symptoms.

By chasing beggars out of Abuja, we’re essentially sweeping our problems under the rug rather than confronting and resolving them. This approach not only fails to tackle the underlying issues that lead to begging but also perpetuates the stigma surrounding it.
