Senator Shehu Sani responded by stating that the government should train individuals who will service and repair the tractors utilizing university and polytechnic workshops before importing 10,000 of them.
The former legislator continued by revealing that thousands of imported tractors are lying throughout the nation, broken down, and that it would be preferable if the tractors were produced locally in Nigeria to generate employment.
Senator Shehu Sani made this disclosure in a post he made on his official X handle, while reacting to the report.
He wrote: “Before the FG imports 10,000 tractors, it should also train those who will service and repair them using the Workshops of our Universities and Polytechnics. There are thousands of abandoned broken down Imported Tractors. It will also be better if the Tractors are assembled in the country to create jobs.”
It should be recalled that the Minister of Agriculture and food Security, Mr. Abubakar Kyari, recently disclosed that Bola Tinubu led government ordered for the importation of 10,000 tractors into the country, to provide mechanization hubs across the 774 local government areas in Nigeria.
