Reports by the Defence Headquarters confirmed the existence of Lakurawa in the north-western region of Nigeria. The group has been reportedly terrorizing residents in Sokoto State, further heightening insecurity in the region.

In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Senator Sani stated, “Lakurawa is not a new terrorist group. It’s part of the chain of terrorist forces unleashing evil along the length of the Sahel.”

He emphasized that while Lakurawa shares similarities with other local terrorist groups and bandits, one key difference is its foreign command structure. “The major difference between the Lakurawa & the Nigerian-based bandits and terror groups is that the chain of command of the former are foreigners,” Sani added.

Sani also warned that the group is likely to engage in power struggles with other Nigerian-based terror groups. “Lakurawa is likely to engage in a continuous battle of supremacy against their Nigerian counterparts,” he noted, indicating the potential for further instability.

To effectively combat this new threat, Sani called for a coordinated multinational effort. He suggested collaboration between Nigeria, Benin Republic, and Niger to address the growing menace. “Combating and annihilating Lakurawa demands a multinational action, especially between Benin Republic, Niger & Nigeria,” he wrote.

Furthermore, Sani condemned the group’s violent tactics, describing their actions as barbaric. “Pursuing a ‘jihadist’ agenda by beheading innocent people is nothing but a despicable act of lunacy,” he declared.

He concluded by reaffirming Nigeria’s resilience against the threat. “Nigeria will never be subjugated or conquered by such evil souls,” Sani stated, while calling on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to take a united stand against the growing terrorist threat.

As Lakurawa continues to spread fear in Sokoto State and beyond, Sani’s comments underscore the growing urgency for regional cooperation in addressing terrorism in the Sahel and the broader West African region.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
