Speaking at a press briefing covered by Symfoni TV, Ken Njemanze, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and legal counsel to Martin Amaewhule, outlined the court’s decision. “The appeal by the Governor of Rivers State was dismissed by the Supreme Court this morning, following the notice of withdrawal by the Governor of the appeal filed,” he said.

SAN Njemanze emphasized that the ruling reinforces previous judicial decisions. “The decisions of the Court of Appeal and that of the Federal High Court, presided over by Honorable Justice Omotosho, affirming that the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Honorable Martin Amaewhule and the other 26 members of the House of Assembly, are the authentic members of that House of Assembly, and it remains so,” he stated.

The SAN highlighted the court’s clear position on leadership legitimacy: “Martin Amaewhule is the Speaker of the Rivers House of Assembly, and that is the position today.” He also noted that “the Court of Appeal had admonished and clearly stated that the house reportedly being led by a three-man panel is not the house.”

It is important to note that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has withdraw the case file through his lawyer after the new turn of event. The political situation in Rivers state is expected to change as the final judgment on Martins Amaewhule’s and the 26 other lawmakers have now been settled by the Supreme Court.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
