Despite being invited, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, according to former Ikwerre Local Government Chairman Samuel Nwanosike, skipped the recent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Congress. According to Nwanosike, Fubara’s absence betrays a lack of dedication to the PDP and raises the possibility that he may defect to the Action Peoples Party (APP).CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
In an interview with TVC, Nwanosike remarked, “PDP has conducted state Congresses and we have an elected State excos that we are proud of. And we want to assure you that everybody will be carried along. Fubara and his deputy governor were invited to come to this PDP Congress because we voted for them as members or PDP. If he was a true member of PDP, he would have been here to make speeches on behalf of the party.”
Nwanosike also highlighted the governor’s responsibilities, stating, “The governor should be the one to decide what he wants to achieve for the people of Rivers State. He swore an oath to uphold the constitution of Nigeria. He has been given a mandate and the Supreme Court has validated his mandate that he is the governor.”
He expressed concern over Fubara’s failure to present a budget and acknowledge the state assembly, arguing, “You cannot govern Rivers State without a budget, you cannot govern Rivers State without recognizing the assembly that the people of Rivers State voted for.”
Nwanosike believes Fubara’s absence from the PDP Congress and alleged intent to join the APP signify his disinterest in the PDP. He concluded, “It is clear to the National Executive that he does not believe in PDP and he has made up his mind to go to APP.
