Upon exiting his vehicle and attempting to enter the council, Ihunda was met by a barricade of youths who quickly advanced towards him. In response, Ihunda hurried back to his vehicle while his security team intervened, firing shots into the air to deter the crowd and prevent them from reaching him.

Ihunda managed to escape in a black SUV with his aides, as the protesters hurled insults and shouted at him to stop running. Some youths were heard yelling challenges and taunts, demanding that he face them while saying they are not afraid of him.

Some youths were heard shouting, “Thats him, Allwell. Chase him. Who is he? Look at him, Mayor, is running. Chase him. Don’t run, come you will see pressure. We are not afraid of you.”

Despite efforts by his security details to pacify the crowd, the protesters were undeterred, questioning why Ihunda was fleeing.

The local government chairmen, elected during Nyesom Wike’s administration as governor, based their refusal to vacate office on a local government amendment law.
