According to DAILY INDEPENDENT, Professor Usman Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has voiced his concerns on Nigeria’s difficult economic circumstances. He shared that Northerners should stop blaming others for their struggles.
Yusuf said the current problems Nigeria is facing are tough, but not impossible to overcome.
He believes that if leaders at all levels of government work in the interest of the people, the situation could improve.
He stated that the people in power should focus on serving the citizens who voted for them.
He also spoke about the tendency for Northerners to blame others for the region’s troubles, according to him, this blaming needs to stop.
He mentioned that the region has played a role in its own challenges.
Yusuf pointed out that in the 2023 general elections, over five million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came from the North.
He suggested that the North made the choice to support the president, even though many feel betrayed by the current situation.
Yusuf urged people in the North to accept responsibility for their situation and focus on finding solutions.
“No Northerner should blame anyone for our current situation. We brought it upon ourselves.”
“I can hear discordant voices all over the Northern region of betrayal, the question is who betrayed who? Out of the over eight million votes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu scored in 2023 general elections, over five million came from the North.
