President Buhari didn’t even trust his own VP, (Yemi Osinbajo) he wanted Ahmed Lawan

Former Jigawa State Governor and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Sule Lamido, has reportedly commented on the status of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its chances in the forthcoming general elections of 2027, according to Nigerian Tribune. Lamido, a PDP founding member, talked on the prospects and problems facing the party, especially in its attempts to unseat President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Lamido provided insights into the political processes inside the PDP and the larger Nigerian political scene while speaking on national concerns.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

Chief Lamido pointed to what he described as critical miscalculations during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. He suggested that Buhari, despite his long political career, exhibited a level of political naivety, particularly in his interactions with influential figures like Bola Tinubu. According to Lamido, Buhari’s preferences leaned towards another Northern candidate, specifically Senate President Ahmed Lawan, to succeed him. This, Lamido argued, was a strategic error, considering the political climate and the need for balanced regional representation in Nigeria.

The former governor’s remarks also touched on internal party dynamics within the PDP and the membership of Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Wike, known for his vocal and sometimes controversial stance on national issues, has been a prominent figure within the PDP. Lamido’s comments highlighted ongoing tensions and the complex relationships among party members, reflecting the intricate balance the PDP needs to maintain in navigating its political strategies.

Lamido’s assessment of the APC’s strategy revealed underlying tensions between the party’s leaders. He noted that despite the outward appearance of unity, there were deep-seated mistrusts and divergent interests, especially between Buhari and Tinubu. This mistrust, Lamido hinted, may have influenced Buhari’s reluctance to support Tinubu wholeheartedly, preferring instead to back Lawan, a choice he believed would have created a smoother transition for the North’s political dominance.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Lamido expressed confidence in the PDP’s ability to reclaim power. However, he underscored the need for the party to learn from past mistakes and craft a more inclusive and representative approach. He emphasized that successful governance in Nigeria requires understanding the diverse interests of its regions and ensuring that leadership reflects a balance of power, a sentiment that resonates strongly within the PDP’s core ideology.

He said: Buhari, very naive, was watching. He never liked Tinubu. There was somebody he wanted. He didn’t even trust his own vice president, Professor (Yemi) Osinbajo; he wanted Ahmed Lawan, but his calculation was absurd. You have done eight years for the North and you wanted another Northerner for another eight years?! No. Maybe later but there are some dynamics which you can’t alter, not in Nigeria of today.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
