Police Take Over Kano Emir’s Palace While Emir Sanusi Is Scheduled To Address Concerns About Tax Reform Bills

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the situation may be linked to a planned address by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The Emir was reportedly set to speak to a group of economists about the controversial tax reform bills, these bills has brought debates across the country, with concerns about their potential effects on workers and state revenues.

Eyewitnesses reported heavy security presence around the palace, but authorities have not yet issued an official statement about the reason for the takeover.

Attempts to reach the  Kano State Police Command for clarification have been unsuccessful.

The tax reform bills, which aim to boost revenue collection, have been criticized by labour groups, including the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The TUC recently warned that workers might face severe hardships if state revenues decline due to the reforms.
