In a live coverage by Symfoni TV, Wike said that Obi’s supporters tried to convince him to back Obi during the presidential campaign, however he refused. He said he felt that Peter Obi’s chances of winning the election were slim, and he made it clear that he did not believe Rivers State should back a candidate with little chance of success.
In Wike’s words: “All these things you are seeing, there is Atiku group, there is Peter Obi group and there is a group of some PDP governors who believe I am a problem to them. The Atiku group believe that I and my team stopped Atiku from becoming president. What we stopped was injustice. As for Peter Obi’s group, they lobbied me so much.
