Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi claimed in a widely circulated video posted on NEWS CENTRAL TV’s official X handle that he has never given the order for a police officer to detain someone for peacefully protesting. During the interview, the presenter asked Obi how he felt about the federal government’s actions against the protesters. Obi firmly supported the right to protest in a democracy, emphasizing that during his tenure as governor, he consistently engaged in dialogue with demonstrators rather than resorting to arrests.

“I have said it before that everybody has the right to protest. These protesters even warned the government months before protesting. I will sit down and discuss with them,” Obi explained. He recounted his experience as governor, noting that people protested, went on strike, and even shut down schools and hospitals, yet he never ordered the arrest of any protester.

“As a politician, as a governor, I have never for one day told a policeman to stop somebody from protesting, not to talk of arresting the person. It shouldn’t be. In a democracy, people have the right to say no,” Obi added.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
