Oshiomhole, Retired generals behind illegal mining, we know them, nobody in Africa doesn’t know them

 

Retired military generals are allegedly responsible for illicit mining activities throughout Nigeria, according to Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North. During the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals Development’s presentation of its 2025 budget report on Friday, Oshiomhole said those engaged in illicit mining are well-known.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

According to The PUNCH reports, Oshiomhole said, “The ongoing illegal mining across the country is being carried out by retired generals, and we know them. Yes, we know them. Nobody in Africa doesn’t know them. I wrote a letter to former President Muhammadu Buhari on the matter when he was in office.

The former Edo State Governor and current Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior revealed that he had previously written to former President Muhammadu Buhari on the matter. He recounted how illegal mining activities hindered political processes, particularly during primary elections in Zamfara State.

Oshiomhole emphasized the need for the government to deploy joint security forces, including the Army, Police, and Air Force, to combat illegal mining. He argued that such measures should extend to tackling other economic crimes like oil theft.

The senator warned that Nigeria’s plans to diversify its economy could fail if President Bola Tinubu’s administration does not address the illegal mining crisis.
