Onyinye-Gandhi Chukwunyere, the sole badge of infamy now worn by Tinubu’s Jankara government

The African Action Congress (AAC) spokesperson, Barrister Onyinye-Gandhi Chukwunyere, has expressed disapproval of the current administration’s handling of peaceful protesters demanding decent governance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

In a recent interview with The Independent, Chukwunyere described Tinubu’s government as a “jankara government” with a disgraceful approach to dealing with civil dissent.

Chukwunyere did not mince words when asked about the ongoing treason trial of #EndBadGovernance protesters, despite frequent calls for their release.

He stated, “Interestingly, not even military dictators such as Generals Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) and Sani Abacha could summon the depth of depravity required to arrest, detain, starve, torture, and then charge scores of Nigerian children with treason. Tinubu’s Jankara government now has that sole badge of infamy.”

He called attention to the detention of thousands of people who took part in the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations, including minors, and called it both shameful and unacceptable.

Chukwunyere claims that these acts expose a government that is adept at manipulating elections but incapable of carrying out effective governance.

“It exposed the ugly underbelly of the Tinubu government as nothing more than a collection of small men and women adept at rigging elections but totally useless in the serious business of governance,” he remarked.

Chukwunyere also took issue with the government’s indifference to calls to free the demonstrators who were imprisoned, citing the character of the government’s leadership.

He said, “The continued trial of peaceful protesters for treason despite the widespread call for their freedom speaks to the character of the elements in this government, from Tinubu to his last appointee.”

The spokesperson for the AAC emphasized that lawful protests are essential to any democracy and cautioned that a government that restricts these rights will unavoidably face backlash from the populace.

“The hallmark of any bad government is its mortal fear of legitimate citizens’ protest. This is a terrible government; sooner or later, the people will consign it to the waste bin of history,” he added.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
