Once more, the Rivers crisis worsens as the PDP writes the court and tries to stop all appeals.

A new dimension has emerged in the ongoing crisis of legitimacy between the Rivers State Government and the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In a letter to the Court of Appeal, PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Acting National Chairman Amb. According to Thisday, this marks the second time the duo has made such a request.

In their letter, the PDP leaders argued that the national secretariat had not authorized any legal proceedings involving the party.

They emphasized that, according to the party’s constitution, no legal action concerning the PDP can proceed without the approval of the national leadership.

The appeals currently before the Court of Appeal concern issues surrounding the Rivers State legislature and local government elections.

Key cases include one filed by the Rivers State Government, seeking to delay the execution of a ruling requiring Governor Siminalaye Fubara to resubmit his 2024 budget.

Another case involves the Action Peoples Party (APP), which seeks to declare the seats of certain lawmakers vacant due to alleged defection to the APC.

During hearings, confusion arose when two lawyers, Mr. B.F. Folurunsho and Mr. J.Y. Musa, appeared for the PDP, each claiming different instructions.
