Oko Jumbo, Order stopping INEC from conducting election for 27 vacant seats in Rivers HoA has elapsed

 

There is currently no court order preventing INEC from holding by-elections for the 27 open seats in the state’s House of Assembly, according to the three-member group of the Rivers House of Assembly led by Oko Jumbo. During a live broadcast on Symfoni TV, Oko Jumbo clarified that a court order was the sole thing keeping INEC from holding these elections. However, the Federal High Court recently dismissed the case related to this order. In Jumbo’s words: “The only impediment to INEC conducting a by-election to fill the 27 vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly was the order of interlocutory injunction restraining INEC from conducting a by-election. Now that suit number FHC/Abj/CS/I681/2023 has been struck out, the order of interlocutory injunction is also spent.
