Okey Ikechukwu Reveals How Peter Obi handled minimum wage issue when he was Anambra Governor

Prof. Okey Ikechukwu, the executive director of Development Specs Academy, has described how Peter Obi addressed the minimum wage issue when he was Anambra State’s governor and the state employees refused to accept his proposed minimum wage.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

Prof Ikechukwu shared this while giving reasons why states should determine how much they can afford as minimum wage. He said states should pay a minimum wage that is connected to their internally generated revenue and the monthly federal allocation they receive. He admitted that some wealthy states like Lagos may be able to afford higher minimum wages but that shouldn’t be an excuse for workers of other states to demand similar wages.

Sharing how Obi dealt with the wage issue, Prof Ikechukwu said: “I think that was the situation some time in Anambra when Peter was Governor. I believe it was the doctors who were on strike. We can’t take this, we can’t take that. If you go to Ebonyi state, this is what they are being paid. He said well, go there and get paid. He actually brought out the budget of the state. I think it also included teachers.

Look at the state budget, look at what will be taken out of it if I do this minimum wage. So you guys tell me how you think because this is our money in this state. Some said we don’t care, you are the Governor, find the money. He didn’t.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
