Human rights advocate and attorney Prof. Chidi Anselm Odinkalu responded to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission’s (EFCC) failure to include a name in a press release sent on their official X handle following Kogi state governor Usman Ododo’s assistance in Yahaha Bello’s detention. Usman Ododo reportedly assisted Yahaya Bello, the state’s beleaguered former governor, in evading capture by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday, according to PUNCH. However, after the act, EFCC released a statement warning people to desist from obstructing officers of the commission from carrying out their lawful duties.
EFCC wrote;
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission wishes to warn members of the public that it is a criminal offence to obstruct officers of the Commission from carrying out their lawful duties. Section 38(2)(a(b) of the EFCC Establishment Act makes it an offence to prevent officers of the Commission from carrying out their lawful duties. Culprits risk a jail term of not less than five years. This warning becomes necessary against the background of the increasing tendency by persons and groups under investigation by the Commission to take the laws into their hands by recruiting thugs to obstruct lawful operations of the EFCC”.
However, Chidi Odinkalu has now reacted after he saw the press statement that was released by EFCC. In the post that he shared on his official page, he said EFCC failed to name and address their press statement to the sitting governor of Kogi state and his immediate predecessor.
Hw wrote on his page;
“EFCC lacks the gumption or authority to name and address this release to the sitting governor of Kogi state snd his immediate predecessor. Instead, it reserves its institutional muscles for irrelevance”. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
