Nigerian Reacts Following Femi Fani-Kayode’s Comment Concerning Nationwide Protests Starting In August

Mixed reactions have been seen online to remarks made by former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode about the start of the statewide protests in August. However, he drew a clear distinction between peaceful protests and attempts to destabilize the nation. According to him, any group seeking to incite violence and chaos is unacceptable. He urged protest organizers to consider alternative approaches, such as engaging in dialogue with the federal government to address their concerns in a lawful and responsible manner.

Fani-Kayode warned that deviating from peaceful and legitimate protests would be counterproductive and potentially dangerous. He highlighted the presence of “faceless individuals” working to undermine the country’s stability and democracy.

These individuals, he claimed, are backed by subversive elements and seek to provoke security forces into mutiny and rebellion against authority, thereby truncating Nigeria’s democracy.

Fani Kayode wrote on his official X:

“There is nothing wrong with a peaceful demonstration and a lawful, legitimate protest. What is unacceptable is a premeditated attempt by a group of faceless individuals who are on the payroll of subversive elements to destabilize the country and incite people to violence and carnage.
