Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has been placed under custody by the Department of State Services (DSS). While the exact reason for his arrest remains unclear, sources indicate that he has been handed over to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). Ajaero was scheduled to attend the Trade Union Congress (TUC) conference in the UK, which is set to take place today.

In response to the arrest of their president, Joe Ajaero, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) issued a statement on their X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating:

“The assault on Nigerian workers continues. The President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, was arrested and abducted by DSS operatives this morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, while on his way to attend an official engagement of the TUC in the United Kingdom.
