Minister: Minimum Wage Template Will Be Available Soon

The new national minimum wage template will be made public, as promised by Minister of State for Labour and Employment Nkeruka Onyejeocha, once it is finalized. Onyejeocha reports that a tripartite committee consisting of representatives from government, business, and organized labor will meet with the head of the federation’s civil service to approve the adjustments related to the new compensation.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment held a town hall meeting in Abuja on Friday, during which she made this announcement.

A separate meeting between the government and the tripartite committee was ongoing, the minister said, adding that there was hope despite Labor’s failure to finalize the consequential adjustment, which delayed the payment of the new minimum wage.

“As we speak, a discussion is taking place on the government side this morning regarding the new minimum wage and any ensuing adjustments,” she stated. “By 2:00 pm, the tripartite is meeting with the Head of Service.” They will begin paying as soon as they receive the money we are expected to pay.

“We will not accept blame for the delay in the figures since, on the day we approve it, they should have formed the committee and provided a figure as it is not difficult to calculate what we should contribute.

Thus, I think that one will take place as soon as possible. The minister stressed that maintaining industrial peace and harmony in workplaces across the country, as well as ensuring decent work in all economic sectors, are the ministry’s duties.
