G7 foreign ministers are meeting to establish a shared stance on the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest order for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to Daily Post, Tajani indicated that reaching a consensus on the arrest warrant would not be difficult, as he does not foresee Netanyahu traveling to Italy or elsewhere.
The ICC issued the arrest warrants on Thursday for Netanyahu, the recently dismissed Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif, in connection with alleged war crimes in Gaza.
Israel’s allies have criticized the decision, and while ICC member states are generally obligated to enforce arrest warrants, there is still debate on how to handle Netanyahu’s situation.
In addition to discussing the Middle East crisis, the G7 foreign ministers’ agenda includes the ongoing war in Ukraine, the potential implications of Donald Trump’s re-election as U.S. president, and concerns over Taiwan’s self-governance amid Chinese claims of sovereignty.
This meeting will be the final one of the year for the G7 foreign ministers.
