Kemi Badenoch informs VP Shettima, “I am not Nigeria’s PR.”

 

Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the UK Conservative Party, has reiterated her position on remarks on Nigeria, claiming that she is not required to serve as the nation’s public relations spokesperson, according to Leadership.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

Badenoch, who was born in the UK and spent part of her childhood in Nigeria, has previously described her upbringing as fraught with challenges, citing issues such as insecurity and corruption. Her remarks recently drew criticism from Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, who accused her of undermining her heritage.

During an event in Abuja on Monday, Vice President Shettima addressed Badenoch’s statements, suggesting that if she was ashamed of her Nigerian roots, she could “remove the Kemi from her name.” He described Nigeria as the “greatest Black nation on earth” and emphasized the contributions of Nigerian immigrants globally.

“She is entitled to her opinion,” Shettima remarked, “but we, as Nigerians, are proud of her accomplishments despite her comments. She should take pride in her roots rather than denigrate them.” He contrasted Badenoch’s approach with that of other diaspora leaders like UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who have consistently celebrated their heritage.

In response to Shettima’s remarks, Badenoch defended her position on Wednesday, telling reporters, “I speak the truth about my experiences. I am not here to sugarcoat reality or act as Nigeria’s PR.
