Punch reports that the Kwara State Government has opened an investigation into claims that instructors at Government Day Secondary School in Kulende, Ilorin, assaulted a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Sources revealed that the corps member was beaten and her NYSC T-shirt torn by a teacher for not greeting them properly. Another teacher reportedly joined the assault, slapping her during the altercation. The incident has sparked public outrage, raising concerns about professionalism and the abuse of power in educational institutions.

NYSC’s Head of Information and Public Relations in Kwara State, Morakinyo Oladipo, confirmed the incident and assured that steps were being taken to address the situation. The NYSC has decided to repost the corps member to another location to help her recover from the trauma. The state government was promptly informed through the Ministry of Youth, which supervises the NYSC.

The state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, condemned the assault in a statement, calling it “unacceptable” and inconsistent with Kwara State’s reputation for peace and harmony. She assured the public that disciplinary actions would be taken against the accused teacher, Mrs. Amuzat Fatima Nike, and that calm had been restored in the school.
