In reaction to recent threats from Israel to attack its nuclear energy plants, Iran reportedly filed an official protest with the U.N. nuclear watchdog on Monday, according to a report from Reuters. This news comes amid Israel’s threats of reprisal for Iran’s missile attack earlier this month, which sparked a great deal of conjecture about possible military action directed against Iran’s nuclear installations.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry, addressed the issue during a televised press conference, stating, “Threats to attack nuclear sites are in direct violation of U.N. resolutions and are unequivocally condemned. We have already submitted a formal letter to the U.N. nuclear watchdog regarding this matter.”
The situation escalated after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office released a statement affirming that Israel would consult with its key ally, the United States, before deciding on a response.
However, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel’s actions would ultimately align with its own national interests. His comments came in the wake of a Washington Post article reporting that Israel had informed the Biden administration of its intent to strike Iranian military targets while avoiding nuclear or oil-related sites.
Responding to questions about whether Iran would reconsider its nuclear policy, Baghaei reiterated, “Weapons of mass destruction have no place in our policy.” He added that Tehran would carefully decide when and how to respond to any potential Israeli attack.
For years, Iran has denied allegations from Western nations that it is secretly working to develop nuclear weapons, affirming its compliance with the global Non-Proliferation Treaty. Baghaei’s statements further sought to dismiss these accusations.
In addition to the nuclear concerns, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is set to travel to Bahrain and Kuwait to engage in diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions.
The backdrop of these developments includes Iran’s recent missile strikes on Israel, conducted in retaliation for Israeli attacks on Iranian allies Hezbollah and Hamas.
This marks the second time this year that Iran has launched missile volleys at Israel, following an earlier attack in April, which Israel answered with an airstrike on a key Iranian air defense site.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
