According to Ibrahim Abdullahi, the PDP’s Acting National Publicity Secretary, Peter Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate, quit the party as Iyorchia Ayu’s National Working Committee (NWC) was ready to suspend him.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
Abdullahi drew a clear distinction between the past leadership under Ayu and the current NWC, which is now led by Ambassador Umar Damagum. He emphasized the differences in management style, noting that the Ayu-led NWC was known for issuing multiple suspensions, whereas Damagum has fostered unity within the party.
In an interview with Arise TV, Abdullahi praised the leadership of Damagum, stating, “The position of Ambassador Umar Damagum didn’t come through appointment; he came through the operation of the law. And there’s no interloper or fifth columnist that would be planted at this level to create an impression that there’s disharmony or disaffection in the party.”
He further highlighted the stability that Damagum has brought to the PDP since taking over leadership after Ayu’s court-ordered removal. Despite ongoing political challenges, Abdullahi believes that Damagum has successfully provided leadership and inspired the party.
Abdullahi noted that the suspensions that characterized the Ayu-led NWC have ceased under Damagum’s leadership, which he credits with improving cohesion within the PDP. He remarked on the unfortunate loss of Peter Obi, who he said left just before he was suspended due to the mismanagement under the previous NWC.
Abdullahi reflected on the impact of Obi’s departure on the party’s performance in the last election, stating, “We woke up one morning and saw that we lost Peter Obi; he left at the verge of suspension and out of mismanagement of our fortune, and that counted against us in the election seriously, which we lost.”
In addition to Obi, Abdullahi pointed out that the PDP also lost Rabiu Kwankwaso and several other key members under Ayu’s leadership. However, since Damagum took over, the party has experienced greater stability and less internal conflict. Abdullahi believes that the current NWC has restored order to the PDP, contrasting it with the disarray seen during the previous administration.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
