The management team of Benin City’s Stella Obasanjo Hospital and Edo Specialist Hospital was fired by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo in a show of force. In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Umar Ikhilor, and made public by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the affected staff and council members are required to hand over all government properties in their possession to the most senior officers in their respective institutions.
According to Vanguard, this move follows earlier recommendations made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) transition committee in November 2024.
The committee, presenting its report to the governor-elect, had suggested a review of agreements signed by the hospitals’ management with the previous government.
The changes aim to restructure the administration of these institutions and ensure a more efficient management approach under Okpebholo’s leadership.
