Gen Ayoola Reveals The Actual Number Of Soldiers Killed Is 17, It Was 13 Soldiers That Were Killed In Okuama

Retired Major General Henry Ayoola, a former commander of Operation Safe Haven, revealed that the confirmed death toll of soldiers in Delta state is 17. He stated that the Okuama neighborhood saw the deaths of 13 soldiers, a captain, two majors, and a commanding officer. He pointed out that the taking of a human life cannot be minimized or compared. Reflecting on the grim reality of the situation, he lamented the state of the nation, drawing from his extensive experience spanning over five decades within the military domain. He expressed profound concern over the trajectory that led to such tragic events, recalling previous instances of near-disasters during his tenure as Commanding Officer for Operation Safe Haven.

He attributed the current crisis to a pervasive erosion of values, ethics, and character within society, attributing it to a systemic failure in parental and societal responsibilities towards nurturing and instilling desirable traits in the younger generation.

He said in an interview with Arise TV, ”The actual number of soldiers killed is 17, it was 13 soldiers were killed in Okuama. The Commanding officer, two majors one captain, and 13 soldiers. The issue of human life cannot be something we will be approximating. We need to be correct about that. It’s 17 precious lives that were lost.

What comes readily to my mind is that it’s a sad note for our country to be in this state. I mean as somebody who has seen the nation and been around the military sector for over 50 years, I asked myself how did we get here. When I was the Commanding Officer for Operation Safe Haven, we have had near a near-death disaster before. What has happened over time is that our nation has lost touch with values, ethics, and characters. What we are seeing is a harvest of longtime failure of parental responsibility and societal responsibility of nurturing and bringing up children that will have the same ethics and culture that we grew up with.
