Femi Falana: The Custom CG Said You Need 2000 Tankers To Take Out The Fuel NNPC Claim Is Smuggled Out

 

A Controller General of Customs contested the NNPC’s statements about the quantity of fuel being smuggled via the border during a Senate public hearing, according to Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN Femi Falana. According to him, Custom CG contended that without a sizable number of tankers, it would be impossible for such a significant volume of fuel to be smuggled out.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

He called for the exposure of the fraud in the fuel importation industry and urged Nigerians to demand answers from the NNPC and the government. He emphasized that inflicting pain on the people due to the actions of smugglers are unacceptable and that Nigerians should reject any attempts to justify this. He also highlighted the long history of this issue, spanning over 25 years, and the failure of both PDP and APC-led governments to address it.

He said in an interview with Channels TV, “‘Before this regime came on board, a controller general of customs challenged the NNPC during a Senate public hearing that it is not possible for that amount of fuel to be smuggled out of the country. The Custom CG said you will need about 2000 tankers to take out the fuel NNPC claim is being smuggled out. This is the time to expose the monumental fraud that has characterized importation of fuel in Nigeria. I think Nigerians should be prepared to challenge the NNPC to come out boldly and let Nigerians what the situation is.

Nigerians should also be prepared to join issues with the government. No independent state can justify inflicting pain on the people because of the criminal activities of smugglers. Nigerians just reject any argument that simply expose us to ridicule. This fraud has gone on for too long.
