Deji Adeyanju: All Of A Sudden They Have Intel About Protest But No Intel About Banditry, Kidnappings

 

The Inspector General of Police’s proposal that protestors provide their personal information has drawn criticism from human rights activist Deji Adeyanju, who described it as a “complete failure of intelligence” in Nigeria. Adeyanju, expressed frustration that security agencies claim to have intelligence on protests but fail to gather intel on banditry, terrorism, and kidnappings across the country. He described the government as “unreasonable” and unwilling to engage with citizens.

In his words;

“The IG has my detail, so why do I need to submit my details that he already has. Every security Agencies in Nigeria, SSS, Army, they have my details. I’m there regular customer. So why do I need to submit any details. It shows a complete failure of intelligence in the country. It’s even an indictment on the Security Agencies that they’re asking for details. So where is intelligence gathering.

“All of a sudden, they have Intel about the protest but all the Banditry activities in Zamfara, all the terrorism in the North East, North West, all over the country, all the kidnappings of schoolchildren, they don’t have Intel and this is why you cannot engage this kind of government, imagine somebody proposing that you should engage this kind of government, engage them to do what?
