Chief Hon James Ugwu:"I appeal to southern Igbo to see reasons the sixth state should be given to the northern Igbos"

The Adada State Creation Movement’s chairman, Chief Hon. James Ugwu, expressed his opinions in an interview with The Sun regarding the ramifications of establishing a state from the southern Igbo region.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

He argued that if a new state were to be created in the Southeast, it should aim to bring the number of states in the region to six, similar to other regions in the country. However, he warned that granting this new state to the southern Igbo would result in an imbalance, with the southern Igbo having four states and the northern Igbo only two.

Ugwu stressed that states should be created for development, not for causing crises. He stated that if a state were created in the southern Igbo region, it would lead to significant unrest, and the northern Igbo would refuse to participate in any regional administration in the Southeast.

He highlighted the disproportionate representation that would result if the southern Igbo had four states: in a scenario requiring two representatives, the southern Igbo would send eight while the northern Igbo would only send four, leading to what he described as an unequal and unfair arrangement.

Ugwu asserted that creating Adada State, which would give both the southern and northern Igbo regions three states each, would be the fairest solution.

He said, “If they want to do the right thing, the best thing is to create Adada State so that southern Igbos will have three states and northern Igbos will have the same. When we talk about regional administration, we would all go there with happiness.

“If you think that because you have contacts with the president or something like that, you can do anything, we will also do anything we like, and that means crisis instead of development that state creation is meant for. I appeal to our brothers and sisters in southern Igbo to see reasons the sixth state should be given to the northern Igbos.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
