Bukola Saraki: Kwara's LG Elections Failed to Reflect People's Will

As to the DAILY POST report, former Senate President Bukola Saraki has voiced his dissatisfaction of the recent Kwara State local government elections, referring to the existing chairmen and councillors as illegal. Saraki said, “It is unfortunate that the chairmen and council members in the 16 local government areas in Kwara State currently hold their positions without authority or the consent of the people.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

This criticism follows the announcement by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC), which declared the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winners of the elections held on September 24, 2024.

KWSIEC Chairman Baba Okanla confirmed that the APC had secured all 16 local government chairmanship positions and all 193 councillorship seats across the state.

Saraki’s remarks come in the wake of widespread dissatisfaction with the electoral process.

In a post on his X handle, he highlighted the lack of engagement from the electoral body, pointing out that many citizens mobilized to participate in the elections only to find that there were no electoral officials present at the polling units.

He criticized the preparations for the elections as “shoddy” and indicative of deeper issues within the governance of the state.

“The people mobilised themselves to the polling units for Saturday’s local government election but met the absence of electoral officials and shoddy preparations by the electoral body,” Saraki added.

He commended the citizens for their determination to voice their concerns, describing their efforts as a demonstration of commitment to their community interests, transcending partisan lines.

Despite the official results declared by KWSIEC, Saraki emphasized that the election outcomes do not reflect the will of the people.

He argued that the electoral process has failed to capture the desires and needs of Kwara residents, reiterating that the citizens have sent a clear signal to the state government about their discontent.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
