Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze’s factional Secretary-General, noted that over the past three years, the detrimental activities orchestrated by Simon Ekpa and his associates have resulted in unprecedented pain. He lamented that the Southeast, once teeming with economic vitality and educational prowess, now bears the scars of violence, with traditional ceremonies, weddings, and communal activities forced to be held outside the region due to insecurity.
Isiguzoro questioned the benefits of the Biafran independence movement, asking, “What fruits have these discordant actions borne? Has the insurrection purportedly anchored in the quest for Biafra autonomy yielded any tangible gains for the people of the Southeast?” He emphasized that the answer is a resounding “no,” with the region witnessing a staggering loss of over 34 trillion naira in investment opportunities.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo called upon the Biafrans gathering in Finland to recognize that they lack the mandate to represent the voices of Igbos at home and in the diaspora in declaring a separate sovereign nation. Isiguzoro warned that the relentless quest for Biafran independence not only undermines collective sentiments but also risks compounding Simon Ekpa’s existing legal troubles in Finland.
