Using social media site X, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Communication and Strategy, has addressed the demands and 72-hour ultimatum issued by Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections. He said, “I am still waiting for the letter from Peter Obi’s lawyer threatening a N5 billion suit and demanding an apology to Peter Obi over the planned ‘revolution’.

“Let me just tell Obi and his lawyer : I am not afraid of any legal action. We shall meet in court.”

According to the Punch, This comes after Obi’s legal team issued an ultimatum to Onanuga, demanding that he retract his alleged defamatory statement, issue a public apology, and pay N5 billion in damages. Obi’s attorney, Chief Alex Ejesieme, SAN, contended that Onanuga’s claim that Obi is connected to a planned mass protest is untrue and has tarnished his reputation.

The legal team also demanded that the retraction and apology be published in four national dailies, namely Vanguard, THISDAY, Punch, and The Cable.

Onanuga’s statement, which was made on July 20, 2024, claimed that Obi’s supporters were plotting mayhem and that Obi should be held accountable for any chaos.
