Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has strongly opposed President Bola Tinubu’s proposed tax reform laws, saying they will hurt the country’s economy overall and in the northern region in particular. Zulum voiced his worries in an interview with BBC Hausa that the tax revisions would disproportionately help Lagos State at the expense of other areas.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

According to Daily Post, Zulum emphasized that the bill would harm the North, as well as other southern regions like the South East, South South, and parts of the South West, including Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ondo states.

He argued that these areas would face significant challenges under the proposed tax framework, while Lagos would see the only tangible benefits.

 

 

The governor urged President Tinubu to reconsider the bills, noting that the northern region, which provided 60% of his votes, should not be disregarded.

He cautioned that the perception that the North does not support the president is misleading and requested that the tax reform proposals be withdrawn to avoid further regional disparity.
