Asari Dokubo, a former insurgent leader from the Niger Delta, has reportedly spent more than $2 million of his personal funds to help President Bola Tinubu run for president in 2023, according to the Daily Post. “I can’t be appointed as a minister or into any board; I did not lobby for anything, so it’s not personal,” Dokubo stated bluntly. He then went on to disclose the significant financial backing he provided to Tinubu’s election efforts.
“Yes, I emptied my bank account and spent over two million US dollars; I can’t count what I spent in Naira,” Dokubo said. The former National President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) emphasized the personal nature of his contribution, noting “I didn’t take a dime from anybody except Ijakry, who gave me N300 million.”
