APC: Apart From Losing Election In 2027, The Party Leaders Could Also Be At Receiving Attacks–According to Lukman

Former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, expressed worry in a news article published by Nigerian Tribune over the economic hardships that Nigerians are experiencing as a result of the policies of the current administration. In private talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lukman accused APC leaders of ignoring these problems and putting their own interests above of legitimate economic concerns. In his statement titled “Burden of Leadership: Open Letter to APC Leaders,” Lukman highlighted Tinubu’s activist background and past governance in Lagos State as reasons for heightened expectations regarding his leadership. However, Lukman cautioned that failure to engage with Tinubu might jeopardize both his political future and Nigeria’s democratic progress, potentially leading to electoral defeat in 2027.

Lukman also warned that APC leaders risk not only losing the 2027 elections but also facing public backlash from disgruntled Nigerians. He emphasized the necessity for constructive dialogue with Tinubu to address the country’s economic challenges and uphold the party’s founding principles, suggesting that neglecting this responsibility could have dire consequences for both the APC and the nation’s democratic trajectory.

He said: The former member of the APC National Working Committee further raised the alarm that apart from losing the election in 2027, the party leaders could also be at the receiving end of recent attacks by agitated Nigerians.

“As it is, the inability to organize and initiate engagement with President Asiwaju Tinubu will, in the long run, be injurious to both the political future of President Asiwaju Tinubu and the democratic development of the country at large.
