Halima Falmata, a woman from Dikua in Borno State, gave an explanation of her decision to stay in her town after Boko Haram struck and documented it in a video that was just broadcast by NTA. Falmata claimed that after Boko Haram overran her village, they asked her why she stayed while everyone else had fled. She claimed to have informed them that although those who left did so to avoid suffering, they still had to deal with being internally displaced people (IDPs). My answer to them was that all those who fled did so to escape from suffering but did that insulate them from the untold hardships they endured for a long period of time?
