The incident disrupted Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s scheduled activities, including a planned address on the ongoing controversy surrounding tax reform bills before the National Assembly. The emir was also set to accompany his newly appointed district head, Munir Sanusi, to Bichi.
Despite the blockade, the emir led Friday congregational prayers at the Kano Central Mosque outside the palace. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, Secretary to the Kano State Government, expressed outrage over the development, attributing it to interference from Abuja.
Speaking on a local radio station, Bichi said, “We woke up to this unfortunate incident where police sealed off the palace entrance. Kano is peaceful, but some individuals, backed by the Federal Government, seem determined to destabilize us.”
He assured residents that peace would be maintained in Kano, emphasizing that the emir’s appointment of the district head remains valid. “The emir will escort his district head to Bichi. We stand by that decision, and there is no going back,” he declared.
According to Daily Trust reports, Bichi said, “The emir has appointed the district head and it stands, he will take him to his place and whenever he is ready to go there we are going there with him, no going back.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
