Akpabio made this assurance during a courtesy visit by a delegation from Cross River State, led by former Minister of Justice Kanu Agabi. The delegation formally invited the Senate to join in honouring the late political icon.

Speaking at the meeting, Akpabio described the upcoming burial as a “celebration of life,” expressing the Senate’s readiness to play a central role. “We will be part and parcel of all the ceremonies. The 10th Senate will hold a valedictory session for him on November 28, 2024, after which we will join you in Calabar for the Night of Tributes,” he said.

Akpabio praised Dr. Wayas, the first Senate President from Nigeria’s South-South region, as a trailblazer who left an indelible legacy. He emphasized the Senate’s commitment to collaborating with Cross River State in honouring his life and contributions to the nation.

Earlier, Kanu Agabi appealed to the Federal Government to take responsibility for the burial, highlighting the financial burden on the state government. He also noted that the prolonged delay in burying Dr. Wayas, who passed away on November 30, 2021, had caused confusion among some Nigerians.

“Great men like Marcus Garvey and Mobutu Sese Seko experienced delayed burials. This isn’t unusual for a man of Dr. Wayas’ stature, but we believe it’s time for the Federal Government to step in,” Agabi said.

The burial of Dr. Wayas is set to be a monumental event, reflecting his stature as a charismatic leader and a symbol of national unity.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
