A professor from the University of Uyo was sentenced to prison for tampering with the 2019 election results.

 

For publishing fabricated election results and committing perjury, a Nigerian academic named Mr. Uduk received a three-year prison sentence. Premium Times reported Wednesday that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had prosecuted the University of Uyo’s Human Kinetics professor for his involvement in announcing and disseminating erroneous results from the 2019 general elections in the Essien Udim State Constituency.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

The court also fined Mr. Uduk N100,000, bringing to a close a trial that began in December 2020.

His conviction comes four years after another professor, Peter Ogban, was jailed for three years for a similar offense.

Mr. Ogban, a professor of Soil Science at the University of Calabar, was found guilty of falsifying election results to help Godswill Akpabio, the current Senate President, in the 2019 Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District election, however, Senator Akpabio has repeatedly disowned the professor.

Mike Igini, a former INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom, played a crucial role in initiating both suits and securing Mr. Ogban’s conviction.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
