For publishing fabricated election results and committing perjury, a Nigerian academic named Mr. Uduk received a three-year prison sentence. The court also fined Mr. Uduk N100,000, bringing to a close a trial that began in December 2020.
His conviction comes four years after another professor, Peter Ogban, was jailed for three years for a similar offense.
Mr. Ogban, a professor of Soil Science at the University of Calabar, was found guilty of falsifying election results to help Godswill Akpabio, the current Senate President, in the 2019 Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District election, however, Senator Akpabio has repeatedly disowned the professor.
