The Punch Metro reports that a terrible event in Ebonyi State has resulted in the death of a laborer and the injuries of three others. The incident happened after a soldier and police officers engaged in a stop-and-search operation. The sad incident took place in Ugwuachara community, which is part of the Ebonyi Local Government Area, on Wednesday morning.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

Reports indicate that the laborer, who was killed, fell victim to a stray bullet during an altercation between the soldier, dressed in civilian attire, and the police officers. The soldier, reportedly serving in Operation Kachayanma in Kaduna State, was on leave and visiting Ebonyi at the time of the incident.

Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Adaku Uche-Anya, confirmed the details of the clash. According to her, the altercation began when the police stopped the soldier, who was riding a motorcycle, as part of their routine stop-and-search patrol. The situation escalated during the encounter, leading to a physical struggle between the soldier and one of the officers.

She said, “The soldier was trying to disarm one of the policemen and the bullet went off and hit a bystander who was there. It was not as if the policemen opened fire on bystanders. What happened was that during the scuffle, the bullet went off and hit the bystander.”

She further disclosed that three other individuals sustained injuries during the incident but are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. “The injured victims are responding to medical care, and we are closely monitoring their recovery,” the Commissioner added.

Authorities have identified the soldier involved, confirming that he is an active-duty officer stationed in Kaduna. Both the soldier and the police officers involved in the altercation have been taken into custody for further investigation.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
