Regarding President Bola Tinubu’s ascent to power, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has issued a strong warning, stressing the difficulties Tinubu faced in securing the presidency in spite of resistance from significant political and social organizations in Nigeria.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

In an interview with The Sun, Lamido reflected on the odds Tinubu faced during his journey. “When he picked the ticket, Afenifere was against him, Obasanjo was against him, all of us were against him. Everyone in Nigeria—Afenifere, ACF, Middle Belt, Ohanaeze—you name it,” Lamido said.

He quoted Tinubu’s response to the opposition: “‘Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you all.’” Against all odds, Tinubu went on to become president.

Lamido argued that Tinubu’s victory was not a product of traditional power structures or institutional backing. “Is Tinubu something that the APC made? Was he created by ACF, Afenifere, or CAN? He wasn’t made by any of them. He is the creation of his pocket,” Lamido said, pointing to Tinubu’s personal resources and political strategy.

 

Expressing concern over Tinubu’s independence from Nigeria’s traditional political institutions, Lamido added, “When you have someone who can defy every institution in Nigeria, overcome everyone, and dismantle existing power structures, then you have a problem. We need to start thinking about where this leads.”
