Nigeria's Three Best Players in the First Half, RWA 0-0 NGA

A number of Nigerian players distinguished themselves with outstanding performances in the first half of their 2025 AFCON qualifier against Rwanda, despite being held to a goalless draw. Victor Boniface struck the crossbar, and Ademola Lookman’s goal was disallowed for offside, as Nigeria nearly broke the deadlock. 1. Dele Bashiru

Dele Bashiru was one of the standout performers in Nigeria’s midfield. The versatile midfielder was involved in both the attack and defense, playing his role perfectly in linking up play. His ability to move the ball quickly and create opportunities for his teammates was vital in keeping the pressure on Rwanda.

Bashiru not only supported the attack but also dropped back to help the defense when needed, showing great awareness and work rate. His vision in midfield allowed him to pick out key passes and create scoring chances. If Nigeria is to break through in the second half, Bashiru will likely be at the heart of it.

2. Samuel Ajayi

In defense, Samuel Ajayi was a rock for Nigeria. Calm and composed, Ajayi handled Rwanda’s attacking threats with ease. Whether it was making crucial tackles or reading the game to cut out danger, he was consistently reliable at the back.

Ajayi showed excellent decision-making, especially in high-pressure situations, where quick reactions were necessary to keep Rwanda from scoring. His solid performance ensured that Nigeria went into halftime with a clean sheet, despite the occasional threats from the home team.

3. Stanley Nwabali

Stanley Nwabali, Nigeria’s goalkeeper, was outstanding in the first half. He made several crucial saves that kept the score level, denying Rwanda on multiple occasions. Nwabali’s sharp reflexes and positioning made it difficult for the Rwandan attackers to find the back of the net.

One of his best moments came when he pulled off a brilliant save from close range, reacting quickly to block a powerful shot that could have given Rwanda the lead.
