The group characterized the crisis as troubling and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene, particularly urging him to address the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, whose statements they deemed inflammatory and potentially destabilizing for Nigeria.

In a statement released by Comrade Solomon Lenu and Barr Celestine Nikiri, the ODD expressed their intention to mobilize against Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 if the Rivers State crisis remains unresolved.

They demanded that President Tinubu take immediate action to either control Wike’s behavior or remove him from his position, criticizing Wike for his alleged misuse of Rivers State resources during his tenure as governor.

The statement read: “Mr. President should rein in the minister of FCT who have made himself a thorn in the flesh of Rivers people, or forget our support in 2027. In fact, he should relieve him of his position immediately. Wike should stop playing God, because even the questionable support he gave to the PDP when he was Governor was done with Rivers money, and not with his personal money or inheritance.”

The ODD further warned that if Wike continued making provocative remarks, such as calling himself an “unstable character,” they would organize mass protests against him in Rivers State.

The group also called on the PDP’s national leadership to resolve the issues within the Rivers State chapter within the stipulated 14 days to provide Governor Fubara with the necessary stability. Failure to do so, they stated, would lead to significant opposition against the PDP in the state.

Additionally, the ODD urged Governor Fubara to ensure that Wike provides a comprehensive financial account of his eight-year tenure as governor. They highlighted that Wike had previously accused his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, of failing to provide a proper handover, and stated it was only fair that Wike be held to the same standard.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
