Nwanosike said Tinubu stepped in with a plan to help resolve the issues between Governor Sim Fubara, former Governor Nyesom Wike and other political leaders in the state. He said Tinubu invited the warring factions to the Presidential Villa, where he shared an 8-point agenda aimed at restoring peace in Rivers State. He mentioned that the agenda included specific actions for Governor Fubara, such as working with the 27 house of Assembly members led by Martin Amaewhule, reinstating commissioners who resigned due to the crisis, respecting the terms of local government chairmen and ensuring local government elections are held.
Nwanosike said Governor Fubara agreed to these terms, however, after the peace deal was signed, some individuals began criticizing President Tinubu, claiming he had no right to intervene in Rivers’s issues and they even went to court against the peace agreement Tinubu had helped establish
In Nwanosike’s words: “What did President Tinubu do wrong? He is not even a member of our political family or party (PDP) but he called us to the Villa and said, ‘Gentlemen, I have been in these shoes before, I have seen this before, and I know how to solve this problem. Please, I want you people to implement this 8-point agenda. I don’t want to hear about the impeachment of Governor Fubara, and Mr. Governor Fubara, you cannot take the budget to a 4-man assembly when you have a 27-man assembly. Mr. Governor, return all those commissioners who have resigned based on this crisis, don’t tamper with the tenure of local government chairmen, and don’t seize their allocation. Mr. Governor, conduct local government elections, don’t use a caretaker committee. Mr. Governor, will you do all this?’ And Governor Fubara said yes, he will do them, and he signed, everybody signed. Only for us to come back to Rivers, and people started abusing Mr. President, saying he has no role to play in Rivers, and they even went to court against the peace accord.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
