Lloyd Ukwu: Nigerians are angry Obi was denied the election, people feel he won because he is an Igbo

Dr. Lloyd Ukwu, the head of the NADECO-USA chapter in the United States, stated in a Vanguard article that different parts of Nigeria responded to political concerns in different ways.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

The South-South region witnessed strong participation despite appeals for non-involvement by a few compromised militants, he said, in contrast to the South-East region, where Igbo leaders and traders had jointly resolved not to take part in the protests.

The current protests are seen by many Nigerians as an indirect way of criticizing the treatment of the Igbo people, and Ukwu highlighted the irony of the situation, as many are angry about what they perceive as the purported denial of victory to Peter Obi, an Igbo presidential contender.

Nevertheless, Ukwu noted that the Igbo people seem to put safeguarding their enterprises ahead of participating in demonstrations for independence and liberty, which could eventually impede their ability to empower themselves as a collective.

It has been reported by Lloyd Ukwu that the traders and the Igbo leadership have come to a consensus to refrain from participating and are actively advocating for this. In South-South, on the other hand, the majority of the populace is eager to participate, and they did, while a small number of compromised militants are demanding that no protests take place.

Ironically, many Nigerians believe that Peter Obi’s victory was based on his Igbo heritage, and the majority of the country is furious that he was not elected. This outrage and demonstration is, in a roundabout way, a protest against the treatment of the Igbo people; yet, the Igbo man would rather keep quiet to safeguard his business than to stand up for his own rights and freedoms.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
