His latest song, “Emi Lo Kan,” continues this tradition.
Eedris is famous for his song “Jaga Jaga,” released in 2004 during Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime as president of Nigeria.
Jaga Jaga addressed the corruption and poor governance in Nigeria.
It became a national anthem of protest and caused a huge attention at the time.
In 2023, 19 years after “Jaga Jaga,” Eedris released a remix titled “Lords of Jaga Jaga.”
This song tackled ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Eedris’s fearless approach in his lyrics has made him an important figure in Nigerian music and activism.
Now, with “Emi Lo Kan,” Eedris sets his sights on President Bola Tinubu’s regime.
The song’s title, “Emi Lo Kan,” translates to “It is my turn.”
This phrase became famous when President Tinubu used it while campaigning to delegates in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, during the build-up to the APC presidential convention.
The song’s lyrics criticize both political and religious leaders, questioning their roles in the state of the nation.
“Emi lokan don turn ebi lokan. Yorubas are screaming ‘Ebi Pa Wa’, Hausas are screaming ‘Muna Jin Yunwa’, Igbos are saying ‘E Nor Concern Us. Don’t blame them, Igbos are being discriminated against.”
“Even food don turn to gold in Nigeria. Kidnapping, don’t turn lucrative business in Nigeria. Imagine say na your grandchildren wey Dem kidnap, by now your soldiers for don scatter Nigeria,” he said.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
