Sowunmi: 'Can You Imagine A Minister Telling Us That We Should Start Putting Off Our Freezers?'

Segun Sowunmi, a PDP chieftain, has taken issue with Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, for suggesting that Nigerians turn off their freezers to save electricity. He bemoaned the lack of compassion in the Bola Tinubu government. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

He claimed that the public’s annoyance was increased by this lack of comprehension and consideration. He pointed out that many members of the President’s cabinet, except from a small group, are not meeting the urgent requirements of the public.

He said in an interview with Channels TV, ”The thing that upsets me the most about the Bola Tinubu administration is that they do not speak with empathy. The President’s aides and his minister speak over our heads. Can you imagine a minister telling us that we should start putting off our freezers? It got really that bad.

I think that because we are members of the Southern belt and our capacity in the media is big. Therefore we are pretending that what we would not tolerate in other people, we are going to pamper it. But the reality on ground is that things are really bad. The reality on ground is that except for a few people in the President’s cabinet, many are not doing well.”

In defence of the 241 percent increase in the electricity tariff, the minister of power, Adebayo Adelabu, had claimed that the cheap tariff empowered Nigerians to waste electricity. He argued that some Nigerians going to work in the morning leave their freezers on for days when all the items there are frozen.

He stated that the situation is not the same in the overseas. According to him, other countries citizens as electricity consumers are able to manage their consumption. He alleged that it would have been insensitive for the Nigerian government to continue paying a 100 percent electricity subsidy, yet consumers abuse power. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
